Instagram is one of the best social media platforms for entrepreneurs and freelancers In this article, I’m going to show you how you can make it work for you.

Who knows, you might get lucky and outperform the egg. After all, you’re an eggs-pert at what you do, right? #sorrynotsorry

A Quick Guide to Instagram Marketing

There are 7 things you will need to do if you want to your IG promotions to work and drive traffic to your gigs on Fiverr:

  1. Make sure you have a Business Account or a Creator Account
  2. Post high-quality, engaging content
  3. Interact with Instagram followers and other pages often
  4. Share stories about your work processes to engage
  5. Use relevant hashtags that expand your reach
  6. Post consistently for organic growth
  7. Consider using Instagram Ads for faster growth

In this article, we’ll go into more detail about how to effectively do all of this so your Fiverr gig gets seen by the right people.

Why Bother Promoting Your Fiverr Gigs on Instagram?

You’re probably here because you want more sales. Ideally, you’d like Fiverr’s algorithm to give you those sales – but it isn’t, so you’re exploring other ways to make Fiverr work for you. Here’s something you might not know.

Fiverr really likes it when sellers bring “fresh meat” (aka new signups) to the platform, and it likes it even more when those new buyers love your services. Take a look at this message, which Fiverr sends to Pro sellers who aren’t… performing:

In other words, if you bring new buyers to Fiverr and make them very happy, metrics like your success score may improve and Fiverr will send more hot leads (and bad buyers!) your way. The best thing about promoting your gigs on social media is that you have a lot of choice when it comes to your traffic.

It’s all up to you, in the end. Improving your Fiverr profile is just one reason to follow the strategies I’m sharing. But first, you’re going to need a great marketing strategy to get people to notice your gigs on Instagram! Let’s start with the worst, just to get it out of the way.

The Worst Way to Promote Your Fiverr Gig on Instagram Is…

Is this useful? Yeah. Do people abuse it? Hell yes!

Look at the top-right hand corner, and you’ll see a share button. Click that, and you’ll see a useful popup that enables you to quickly copy your link and paste it into Instagram.

Please, please, don’t just paste your link. I have seen so many sellers do this on so many social media sites and it just doesn’t work: it’s effectively spam. By all means, use the popup to quickly grab your link if you’re on mobile, but if you want to promote your Fiverr gig effectively then this is the wrong way to do it!

Make Sure You Have a Business Account

You probably already have an Instagram account. Chances are, it’s a personal account. I recommend converting this to a business account or starting a new account just for your business. Your friends and family probably aren’t your target market! More importantly, you want to make sure your Instagram account only posts content relevant to your gig and niche (and keep your private life away from your business!).

Whatever you decide to do here, the reason to switch to a business account (or a creator account) is so you can take advantage of Instagram’s analytics. These are great for getting an idea of how your follower growth is going, how good your reach is, and whether your engagement is in a good place or not.

If you’re just starting out, Instagram’s metrics are enough. As you grow though, you may want to invest in third-party apps like Sprout Social which will give you much more in-depth metrics to track your performance.

Ultimately, you’re promoting your Fiverr services. You want to see what works and what doesn’t work so your content gets better and more targeted.

Learn Instagram’s Rules on Self-Promotion and Marketing

Instagram would rather people pay for ads to promote themselves (I know, shocking), so there are quite a few rules around promoting yourself for free. The big and obvious one is “don’t spam,” which, as we already know, is counter-intuitive.

The other rules for self-promotion on Instagram are very much what you’d expect. When promoting your Fiverr gig, remember to…

  • Create content designed to connect with your audience
  • Be authentic – share behind the scenes and little details about you
  • Get involved with your community – give shoutouts, share wins, mention others
  • Experiment with content, including reels, carousels, posts, and stories to find your flow
  • Brand yourself so that your content stands out as uniquely yours

The unspoken keyword here is “effort”. If you stick to these basic guidelines, you’ll soon grow a following that engages with your content.

Use Great Visual Content to Promote Fiverr Gigs

Employing visual content effectively on Instagram can greatly enhance the visibility and appeal of your Fiverr gigs to potential clients. This platform’s focus on imagery enables you to exhibit the quality and creativity of your services in a way that words alone cannot. For example, graphic designers can showcase their portfolio pieces, while writers might utilize visually attractive infographics to summarize their content creation skills.

Each post serves as a portfolio piece, showcasing your skill set and professionalism. Additionally, utilizing Instagram Stories and Highlights can offer a more dynamic and interactive display of your work. By creating content that is not only visually appealing but also narrates a compelling story about your services, you can engage potential clients and effectively communicate the value of your Fiverr gigs.

Use Instagram to Expand Your Reach with Value-Loaded Content

Smartphone with Instagram app

As a major social media website, Instagram has billions of users. Only a fraction of them will be interested in your services, but even that fraction can keep you busy for a long time – if you can find them and win them over.

Whatever you’re selling, you should be creating content that people enjoy and want to share. You don’t need to be a great graphic designer or videomaker to get noticed on this platform. For example, if you’re a programmer, you could tap into a trending topic like AI and automation, showing people snippets of code that could make their business run that little bit more smoothly.

With each video, you can point a link to your services, offering to implement even more effective custom automations. The more niche the video, the more chance it has of being shared (try to spot content gaps!), and the more eyeballs you get on your gig.

It doesn’t matter what you sell: think in terms of content that gives your target market solutions. Don’t worry, they’ll find you! The beauty of social media is that if your content gets shared, you get plenty of free advertising.

It’s OK to do volume posting, but high-quality content that helps your target market is far more effective. Get it just right, and you may even find yourself becoming an influencer.

Use Storytelling!

We all love a good story – and it’s the secret behind marketing. Give your content a little more quality and interest by infusing it with a short story. The easiest way to do this is to tell a story about yourself (bonus authenticity points!). This could be a story about your business, a day in the life of, a look behind the scenes…

…If you don’t have any ideas, take a look at what people in your niche are doing and take notes. The trick is to showcase your service or expertise as you tell the story so you can start to build a relationship and that magical business factor – trust – with your audience.

Use Hashtags to Target Your Perfect Buyer

Hashtags and geotags (also called location tags) are two things you should be using with every IG post you make to promote your Fiverr gig. These are great for targeted marketing on Instagram, as your content will appear on the feeds of people who follow these tags.

It’s a great way to expand your audience and make sure your content is getting viewed by people who are more likely to be interested in buying your gig. It’s the easiest way to quickly increase your visibility and increase the efficiency of your promotional efforts.

One other thing to think about is that Instagram’s algorithm is always checking for engagement. If your content is highly relevant and offers value to the audience, they will interact with your post – comments, likes, and shares. These signal to Instagram that your content is popular. The platform then gives you a boost to even more people!

Here’s My Favorite Fiverr Gig Hashtag Strategy for Instagram

Don’t just slap the first hashtags that come to mind on your Fiverr gig promotions. Think about who your audience is, what they’re interested in, and what they might look for. I go into that strategy more in this post about choosing the best Fiverr tags, and it’s a great strategy for the ‘gram, too.

One small difference: On Instagram, you can actually see how many people are following a hashtag. This is insanely useful information, since you can really dial down into a niche.

It’s really easy to see this hashtag information:

  • Go to Instagram (desktop or mobile)
  • Create a dummy post (you don’t need to post)
  • Start researching relevant hashtags

Here’s a quick GIF of the process. Under each hashtag, you’ll see information on how many posts there are for the hashtag. This is an indicator of how popular it is.

This process is also an annoyingly fiddly one.

Personally, I like to have about 6 or 7 hashtags per post, broken down like this:

  • Pick 5 niche hashtags relevant to your gig (e.g. #graphicdesign #anime #fiverr #freelance)
  • Pick 1 or 2 hashtags related to your post content
  • Repeat step two multiple times to build up a “bank” of related hashtags

The first five hashtags can be used across all your posts related to that gig. It’s worth spending a little time going through hashtags to find your list, ready to copy and paste when you post. Try to find a balance between hashtags with millions of posts and smaller posts.

This is a simple strategy that works across all your content types. It makes it easier to grow a following in a specific niche, while also giving you room to touch out in other areas. Best of all, you won’t have to spend time overthinking hashtags every time you post!

Go Nuts with Engagement Tricks

So, now I’ve explained a little bit about how Instagram’s algorithm works, you’re probably wondering how you can quickly get people clicking all over your stuff. One way to do it is to make great content. This is a job in itself though, and you may not want to spend all hours doing that.

There is another way!

Instagram has features like polls, question stickers, live video sessions. These are really simple little things you can add to otherwise pretty generic posts that can really dial up engagement. Ask a simple question and watch your interactions – and engagement – shoot up.

You can only do this on the Instagram app. If you can do it on the desktop, please tell me how. I feel like I’ve lost hours looking for something that doesn’t exist!

Another strategy to include is the giveaway. These don’t have to be expensive – it can be as simple as offering your service to one person for free. Giveaways are a great way to grow and expand your reach!

If you want these interactive elements to work effectively, you will need some followers first – and ideally, you should be somewhat active in comments. Followers like to feel like they’re valued and heard. If you’re new and doing nothing but poll posts, you’re unlikely to get far.

How to get followers quickly? It will be very slow if you only hang out on your own posts. Get out there and engage! 15 minutes a day will do wonders here. Find relevant content and influencers and interact! Sharing other people’s user-generated content is also a great way to plump up your own feed when you’re not feeling it.

It’ll take time to grow your Instagram, but it’ll be worth it – while you are doing this for your Fiverr gig, having a strong social media presence can be very rewarding away from the platform.

Finally, don’t forget current trends. I’ve already mentioned how you can hop onto the bandwagon with your own high-quality content, but even quick posts on trending topics sharing your opinion can help to keep your account relevant and engaging.

At the end of the day, these strategies will help to boost visibility for your Fiverr gigs and establish you as a strong online presence. This alone can can attract potential clients.

Instagram Ads Are a Cost-Effective Tool

I hear you, I hear you “but I’m already paying Fiverr 20%! Why would I pay to promote, too?”

It’s a good question. Ultimately, it’s one you’ll have to answer yourself. Instagram ads are a cost-effective strategy that can help to enhance your online visibility and make client acquisition that little bit easier. Plus, Instagram is huge compared to Fiverr.

One thing I love about Instagram Ads is that they are much more precise than Fiverr’s promotional ads. You can actually target the type of person you want to advertise to, which can be a gamechanger – not to mention IG gives you a whole host of tools that Fiverr doesn’t.

Just remember that you will need to send your leads to a landing page and not Fiverr. This just means you need people to land on a page between Instagram and Fiverr. If you have a website, you can use a special page for this. Or, if the campaign goes really well, you might not send your leads to Fiverr at all!

Remember: don’t think of promoting your gigs on Instagram as a “Fiverr only” thing. Think of it as an opportunity to promote yourself first and foremost.

Ready to Promote Your Fiverr Gigs on Instagram?

Is this the easiest social media marketing strategy out there? No. Instagram is a notoriously tough platform to crack, and the platform enjoys changing what it wants on a whim, leaving its creators annoyed and demoralized.

Despite this, it is still a powerful place for business to connect with their audience. It will take some time for you to build a presence on here, but it is doable. One thing to remember is that you can share your Instagram content to other social media sites very easily – it’s not always so easy to share posts from other platforms to Instagram.

Hopefully this guide has given you some ideas, inspiration, and strategies to get started. Most of all, remember that you shouldn’t think of social media promotion as “only” for your Fiverr gig, but a way to increase your visibility as a service provider outside Fiverr. This is the most powerful thing you can do for your business. Just think of promoting your Fiverr gig as one of the things you can do in a world of possibilities.
